An Inspiring Design*Sponge House Tour

without comments

I saw this Greenpoint, Brooklyn home on Design*Sponge today (she finds the BEST homes!) and I love it. At nearly twenty-seven, I’m trying to ease out of my IKEA-phase for major furniture, and buy pieces that are second-hand, vintage, and considered (my Pottery Barn phase won’t be for another ten to fifteen years, I think). I want to collect my furniture and curate my home, not style all at once with new, fashionable pieces of furniture. Alex and Anna have done that beautifully.

The yellow drawer unit is something I have already in the gray gunmetal it comes in. I have a feeling they gave theirs a coat of spray paint, and I’m inspired to do the same. They also have a vintage rotary phone in the same color, and I’ve been desperate for one of those for ages, but only one that works. (Side note: I also want a working vintage typewriter. If you see one at a good price, let me know.)

I have this print, and I’m dying to know where they got their frame; I’m hoping it’s not custom. The price of custom framing makes me sick to my stomach, which is why this, and my November 5, 2008 copy of the New York Times, is still unframed. Other things in my house are in ill fitting frames for the sake of keeping it cheap… I’m trying to move away from that phase of my life, too!
