Failure is inevitable. You are going to fail.
I have realized that every endeavor more complicated than baking a batch of cookies will have some sort of mild to major fail and I’ll be in the position of having to make the decision to recover and go on, or not. (Actually, there was this one time I made cookies…)
Hey Brooklyn had a couple of face-plants for me. I showed up to an out-of-studio interview with no microphones, I’ve gotten lost trying to find people. I had instances where my interviewing skills have fallen short, I’ve forgotten to show up altogether, others have forgotten to show up. People have gotten angry. It’s been awkward. And yet I go on. Mostly because Hey Brooklyn is pretty awesome on a regular basis, and the fails pale in comparison. It’s worth getting knocked around sometimes.
Not only is it inevitable, it’s ok to make mistakes, even a big ones. I don’t think I knew that until recently; that you can hit a pothole and still rumble on, and also that you need not stand on the sideline longer than it takes to resolve “so you can process”, that you can just press on while limping, that, in fact, you SHOULD press on while limping sometimes, because “processing” will bog you down and could very well stop you all together.
It is a really cool thing to realize.
I didn’t mean to preach a sermon, and I’m sorry if you’re used to me being lighthearted and articulate and now I’m all heavy and clear as mud.
Boobs!
There.

Heya! I followed your comment over on Design Mom under Megan’s letter to a younger self…
…how her link was broken? Well, I found her to be a hoot – so looked her up, and here’s the link:

Thought I’d pop on over and share it. But what do I find for my troubles? Some tantalising reading, that’s what! Like I NEED another thing to add to my “must reads” list. /sigh That’s what I get for being a do-gooder, huh?
Keep up the genuine posts, they’re delicious.
