So… I gained the weights. I’m up .8 pounds, which sucks. I asked my leader if it was actually physically possible that I might be the only person in the world that defies science and cannot consistently loose weight BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT IT FUCKING FEELS LIKE (uh, and then I might have cried) and she promised me that I had science on my side. She took a look at my food tracker and said that I should make sure I’m getting my full six 8 oz. glasses of water in every day.
“You think that will work?” I asked. It’s the one thing I’m NOT doing.
“I’ve never seen it NOT work.” she said.
So I’m trying it; I even wandered around IKEA with Nicole today sucking down a 20 oz. blue cup of H2O, and I was reminded why I am majorly adverse to drinking so much water: it’s really ANNOYING to pee so much!
I’m hoping this water business kicks me back in the right direction.
I took notes on the meeting; they are below the jump.
Breakfast is important (duh!) Eating breakfast helps you not overeat.
Tips for not skipping breakfast:
Let breakfast cook while you are in the shower or otherwise getting ready. Put an egg in the frying pan on the lowest setting and do your hair. Pour boiling water over steel-cut oatmeal and let that sit to cook. Hungry Girl’s egg mugs.
Savory breakfast ideas:
pretzels with Laughing Cow cheese,
instant grits in the microwave with milk,
WW bagels with lox and fat free cream cheese
9 grain bread with black bean dip and a quarter of avocado
Rye crisp bread with red pepper and cheese
Tortillas and quesadillas
Smoothies with frozen berries instead of ice
Nutrigrain waffles with berries and turkey bacon
French toast with whole wheat bread, egg whites, vanilla and cinnamon instead of syrup
Breakfast tacos with egg whites and chorizo
Frozen WW breakfasts
Arnolds sandwich thins instead of toast
Sunflower butter on toast.
Delicious cereal tips:
frozen blueberries in almond milk are awesome with cereal. Almond is lower points than regular milk.
Skim Plus is skim that tastes like 2%.
A less fattening cup of Jo:
Buy good coffee, fresh grind it, French press it, froth the milk with a milk frother, add some cocoa powder to your grounds for a fun mocha flavor (my suggestion – my mom used to do this and it was AWESOME). That way you won’t be tempted to add excess sugar or fatty milk/cream to make it taste good.
Beyond Fiber One: High fiber cereals that are good
Kashi’s Good Friends
Go Lean Crunch
A certain quinoa-based cereal at Whole Foods
Life’s Heart to Heart
Generic puffed millet
Puffins
Trader Joe’s high fiber brands
Crunch Corn Bran – hard to find in the city, but worth seeking out from the suburbs.

Nice post, Amber! Keep it up! Thanks for taking notes at the meeting, BTW, I definitely didn’t remember all that.

The annoyance with frequent peeing makes us kindred. For reals.

Also – I can’t post this on your life list post for some reason but I wanted to say that I love your list, especially “94 Do another person’s Life List item (that isn’t on my Life List, too) with them.”

Keep up the good work, waiting for your good habits to pay off can be excruciating. Instead of focusing on my weight I focus on my ability, like how many stairs can I run without getting tired, how far can I bike now and feel great, etc.
To make drinking all that water less tedious I ‘spice up’ my water with lemon or lime slices, cucumber spices, frozen berries or unsweetened iced tea, made with tea bags, mint is particularly nice when it is hot out.

Water will help!!!
Don’t get discouraged. Keep it up!
One thing I did when I got sick of just drinking water all the time was that I started drinking unsweetened iced tea.
After I graduated from college I realized that I had gained a lot of weight and started doing Jenny Craig. You will learn great habits and will get great results. It just a lot of work to get there! It is hard work and it takes time but you will feel great and you will be so proud of yourself in the end. Remember – it is a lifestyle change not a diet so the thought that this is for keeps, that you are learning, and adapting makes all the work and grit and stress and maybe tears worth it!
I went to law school a year after reaching my target weight and found it really hard to keep the weight off. I gained some back but have gotten back to it and once you know what to do it isn’t as hard and it isn’t as frustrating.
You are learning and it will work! I have faith in you!! Keep going!!
Good Luck!!!

I agree with Erica! I am obsessed with water with lemon! That doesn’t help with the peeing issue, but it definitely helps me drink my daily suggested amount of water. If I’m feeling particularly ambitious I’ll make a whole pitcher of water with lemon and cucumber slices. Keep up the good work!

Not sure if I’ve mentioned this book to you yet, but you should totally read Skinny Bitch. It helped me make way better food decisions. And there’s a great chapter on pooping, which is very important — and very relevant to weight loss!
