Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough

Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough | 117 Pearl Street, Noank | Connecticut

Daffodil was in Connecticut last week, so I drove three hours north to bum on the beach with her for the day. We got rained out a bit but still made it to Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough. I ordered the new “gigantic” lobster roll: 7 oz. of lobster meat stacked high in a bun that could barely contain it, and didn’t so much eat it as had a moment of spiritual enlightenment. Look at that thing!

As a life-long Connecticut resident, I have strong feelings about how a lobster roll should be served, which is piping hot, completely un-spiced save for a little salt, and with generous amounts of drawn butter. That’s it. (In Maine if you order a lobster roll they’ll give you something cold and filled with mayo, and it will be disgusting, because they are wrong.)

You have just over 70 days to get yourself to Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough before they close for the season. I suggest you get a move on.

Hilariously, I am a lifelong Bay Stater, and therefore I believe lobster rolls should be Maine style, only, ever.
SO. You and I should go to Red Hook Lobster Pound, where we can each get our favorite style of lobster roll and be deliriously happy.
    Yes?

Glad to see I’m not the only person who dislikes Maine-style lobster rolls.
