Rocky Start to 2013
New Years was really fun; I threw a party on New Years Eve (with a pink photo booth!) and hosted a brunch New Years Day. I have found my yearly tradition. Going out on New Years Eve always felt a little reckless; everyone’s drunk, it’s cold, cabs are all but non-existent, and I would rather be home, and warm, and barefoot. (Actually I started off in killer heels around 8 pm, made my friends acknowledge how awesome they were, and promptly took them off again.)
I had intentions of hitting the ground running in 2013 (Lists! Exercise! Determination!) and instead immediately fell on my face right out of the gate with a flu, complete with fever that spiked to 103.3 F – pretty much brain damage territory. I spent about a week in bed, (finally caught up on 30 Rock!) and ignoring the brunch dishes that needed to be cleaned up from January first. Now there’s something growing on the stack of plates that might be on its second phase of evolution and is freaking me out. I’ve debated just moving and buying all new kitchen stuff when I get there rather than attempt to clean out what’s in the sink. It’s really scary in there.
So… rocky start. Silver lining: I lost eight pounds from lack of eating, and I’ll take it.
How are YOU doing? Did you hit the ground running, or was this week a big mushy holiday recovery period for you, too? It’s ok. We’ll get ‘em this week.

We got our illness out of the way on Christmas night with a family barf session. I ended up on an IV, but we got it out of our system quickly and then were fresh for NYE. Why is it that I gained 5 pounds in the process? Oh yeah, rice and applesauce and toast. (sigh) That hardly seems fair.
I am glad you are on the mend. Drag the dishes out into the yard and hose ‘em down. xo

There is such joy on your face in these pictures, Amber. That makes me happy.
I’m so sorry for the brain-damage-worthy fever/flu…no fun at ALL! Hugs to you.

At the risk of sounding like a crazed stalker, this post made me kind of sad that I don’t know you and we don’t live near each other, so the chance of us becoming friends and hanging out together is basically zero. You are awesome, go get ‘em!

The plague has rolled through the country. I finally feel like I’m back into a routine and less like a zombie.
You’ll do amazing things once you feel better.

What a lovely new tradition! NYE kicked off my very first vacation with the boyfriend… He had a gig he had to do sound for in Massachusetts and we used it as an excuse to go visit friends and family. We ended up being in the car on the way back to the house of the friends we were staying with, but everyone back at the house decided it was best to postpone the toast for us. They paused the footage of Times Square and when we got back, we did the toast…. then we played Cards Against Humanity.

I had a GREAT kickoff to 2013 (because I was at your house with people I love dearly!) and broke ground on a new website… but since then I’ve had a rough week sleep wise and I wasn’t able to keep ANY of the resolutions I’d set up for myself for the week.
Ah well. Fuck it. That’s what the new week is for, right?
Glad you’re feeling better. Let Matty and Leeloo handle the dishes.
