Holiday Guide 2009: Gifted – A Holiday Market

without comments

gifted-postcard-front-final

The Brooklyn Flea is hosting a holiday gift fair in Manhattan every Wednesday – Sunday on December 2-6 and then 9-13. After that, they’ll be there every day from December 16-24. Hours are Noon – 7 except Wednesday when they are 6 – 9.

They’re even serving beer crafted by the brilliant Brooklyn Brew Shop (look for them in an upcoming episode of Hey Brooklyn, they sell DIY brew kits that aren’t cheesy). Even Stacy London came by to have a cupcake!

You should check it out if you’re around. More info by clicking the postcard.

Sakura Print

with one comment

When the Brooklyn Flea had it’s opening weekend, I noticed that a lot of vendors had done special items for the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens 2009 Sakura Cherry Blossom Festival. There were cherry blossom tee shirts and pink cupcakes and things like that. Jane, from Foxy & Winston, made a Cherry Blossom print, and I admired it while I shopped her booth (and chatted with her Mum, who is the loveliest lady ever). I didn’t buy it, but I thought her Sakura print would be a good addition to Baby Art week, so when I went home I looked for it in her Etsy shop. It wasn’t there, so I asked about it the following week (and if you’re wondering now if I go to the Brooklyn Flea every Sunday, the answer is, “yeah, pretty much.” I know this makes me teh lame. You don’t have to send me with emails telling me so, certain people.)

She said it wasn’t up on Etsy yet but if I gave her my email address she would send me photos of it. I handed her my “Hey Brooklyn” business card and (because I am networky! and a savvy business lady!) and was all “Oh, by the way, I think you’d make an awesome guest for my podcast!” and she was all, “Oh! I’d love to be on your podcast!” and now I have an interview scheduled with her next week. So awesome. Anyway, this is the print. I think that it, too, would make a very pretty addition to a little girl’s nursery.

There are matching note cards, too!

Hey! Brooklyn!

saturdaynight

The new episode of Hey Brooklyn is up!  This makes three!  Exciting!  Go have a listen.

Also, tomorrow Carissa and I will be heading to the Brooklyn Flea, and then to the Bell House to see, among others, the Kaiser Cartel (Hey Brooklyn episode number 2) perform.  You should come!  It’ll be great.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sunday, October 26, 2008 Brooklyn Flea

with 3 comments

I finally got back to the Brooklyn Flea this weekend after wanting to go for several Sundays and not being able to find the time. We came home with some small treats.

First we found a tiki mug that had been part of a pair. The vendor told us she was trying to sell the duo but one had been dropped and shattered earlier. The survivor had a really big chunk that had broken off and been glued back on, and the crack was still really visible. Because of all this, his price had sunk to a steal at $5, and we took him home.

We also bought some mini pins. Rob got a $3 mystery pack of four from Karen’s Monsters who sells both the squishy monsters and photos of them on pins, and I picked out six from Becky Johnson at sweetiepiepress.com.

My favorite find was a photo art print. I needed oooone more piece of art for this one spot in my house, and I was thrilled when I found it at the Anniebee booth. Her photos are done with vintage cameras and are of vintage things. I was pretty excited flipping though her work, and selected an 8×10 of a duo of “freaked out looking” vintage deer.

This is another one of my favorites from her, called “Robot Heads are Good for Dancing”.

It was a pretty good haul, not too expensive. Brooklyn Flea takes place every Sunday from 10am to 5pm—rain or shine—at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, on Lafayette Ave. between Clermont and Vanderbilt Ave.
