Holiday Guide 2009: Keurig Brewer
Special Edition Home Brewing System, $130
I still like brewing my coffee the complicated way via French press, but I know a lot of people who have these and the coffee is not too bad. It’ll get you out of the house faster in the morning for sure.

Holiday Gift Guide 2009: LCD Soundsystem
LCD Soundsystem self-titled debut, $16
This CD is CPR for a dead party. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a good gift for the cool couple that throws all those parties in their cramped Brooklyn living room. Ahem.

Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Home Beer Brewing Kit
Home Beer Kit, $40
The glass bottle and quality ingredients make this way better than a Mr. Beer kit from a home goods store. And the owners are CUTE! They’re this week’s Hey Brooklyn.

Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Fabric Flower Hair Clips
Fabric flower hairclips, $10
I saw these this summer at the Renegade Craft fair but didn’t pick them up. A few weeks later I chopped my hair off and realized I totally should have. They would be cute in my short curls, I think.

Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Fleece Blanket
Fleece blanket, $17 – $25
You know that scene in The Color Purple where Shug looks at Celie and goes, “You sho’ is ugly!” That’s this blanket. It is not cute, but it’s gangbusters at keeping you cozy. I have one in discontinued black from a few years ago but my first choice would have been Army issue green (I got it in the store and they only had green in twin).
My king-sized has served as the first line of defense when the heat breaks down in the middle of the night, is first choice for movie watching, and occasionally has been hastily fashioned into an impromptu bathrobe.
This would be really nice for the always cold person on your list.

A Lousy Present
You know what I DON’T want for Hanukkah?
“Just a ‘schmear’ could save her life”? Seriously? Do you really want to make this worse by talking about cream cheese? Excuse me while I barf.
Holiday Gift Guide 2009: Sprinkles Cupcake Mix
Sprinkles Cupcake Mix, $14
These mixes are nicer than the ones you just mix eggs, oil and water to, and I love them!

It won’t be their usual rock show - it’s a choir concert featuring unique twists on traditional Christmas songs, classic modern holiday songs and Yoko Ono!
Featuring Marit Bergman, Courtney Kaiser (from the duo Kaiser Cartel – Hey Brooklyn episode 2), Cat Martino, Julia Frodahl (from Edison Woods), Rachelle Garniez, Lauren Balthrop, Liz Tormes, Katie Eastburn, Greta Gertler, Erin Flannery, Joy Askew…
